Caveats

All facts are LabJack's own documentation (support pages fetched as markdown on 2026-10-19); nothing was installed or tested. Version numbers are the installers listed on 2026-10-19 and change often; check the LabJack installer pages before relying on them. LabJack's pages disagree on the Digit: the User's Guide says support was previous (Digit discontinued) while installer pages still say LJM supports Digit devices. On ARM Linux (e.g. Raspberry Pi), Kipling, LJLogM and LJStreamM are not available, so LJM is used from your own program. Language support varies by OS (many wrappers are Windows-only). LabVIEW-on-macOS support is unresolved (kept as an open issue, not a claim). The ARMv7 installer link sits on a beta path.

Claims 18
  • LabJack describes LJM as its free, cross-platform driver/library for simplifying communication with LabJack devices. Evidence: Documented

    Source: src-lj-ljm

  • LJM is a cross-platform library that lets programs read and write the Modbus registers implemented on LabJack devices; it is written in C++ with a C API, and LabJack maintains wrappers for many languages. Evidence: Documented

    Source: src-lj-ug

  • The LJM User's Guide lists the T4, T7 and T8 as supported devices and says LJM previously supported the Digit, which has been discontinued. Evidence: Documented

    Source: src-lj-ug

  • LabJack's installer pages still say "LJM supports T-Series and Digit devices", which conflicts in wording with the User's Guide (Digit support described as past). BenchRove lists only the T4, T7 and T8 as current. Evidence: Documented

    Source: src-lj-inst

  • Windows: LJM supports Windows 7 or later on x86_64 (both 32-bit and 64-bit), with MSVC 2015 or later for C/C++; archived Windows XP builds also exist. Evidence: Documented

    Source: src-lj-ljm-req

  • macOS: LJM supports macOS 10.9 and later on x64 and ARM64; separate macOS x64 and macOS ARM64 installers are published. Evidence: Documented

    Source: src-lj-ljm-req

  • Linux: LabJack says most Linux distributions are supported (including Ubuntu, Arch Linux, RedHat and Raspberry Pi OS) on x86, x64, ARMv6, ARMv7l (armhf) and aarch64 (ARM64), kernel 2.6.28 or later, with libusb-1.0 and glibc 2.12 or later; x64 installers after 2025-02-12 need gcc 7.5.0 and glibc 2.29, and aarch64 installers need gcc 12.2.0 and glibc 2.36. Evidence: Documented

    Source: src-lj-ljm-req

  • As listed on 2026-10-19, the release installers dated 2025-05-07 for Windows x86_64, macOS x64, macOS ARM64, Linux x64 and Linux ARM64 all include LJM 1.2304. Release-candidate installers include LJM 1.2305 (Windows, 2026-02-04) and LJM 1.2308 (macOS and Linux x64, 2026-09-14). Evidence: Documented

    Source: src-lj-inst-win

  • LabJack ships an LJM build for Linux ARM64 for a Raspberry Pi running a 64-bit operating system (LJM 1.2304, installer 2025-05-07). Evidence: Documented

    Source: src-lj-arm

  • The Linux ARMv7 (armhf) installer (dated 2023-11-21, linked from a beta path) contains LJM 1.23.1 and was tested on Raspberry Pi 2 Model B, Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, Raspberry Pi 4 and BeagleBone Black; the ARMv6 installer contains LJM 1.1700 and was tested on Raspberry Pi 1 Model B and Raspberry Pi Zero. Evidence: Documented

    Source: src-lj-arm

  • Kipling, LJLogM and LJStreamM are not supported on ARM (LabJack states they do not support ARM64 or ARMv7; the ARMv6 section repeats the ARMv7 wording). Evidence: Documented

    Source: src-lj-arm

  • Bundled apps differ by OS: the Windows installer includes LJLogM, LJStreamM and Kipling; the macOS and Linux x64 installers include Kipling; the Linux ARM installers include no LabJack GUI apps. Evidence: Documented

    Source: src-lj-inst-win

  • LabJack's LJM example-code table lists, for Windows, Mac and Linux: C/C++, Java, Node.js, Processing and Python; LabVIEW for Windows (its macOS status is an open issue); for Windows only: Agilent VEE, C# .NET, DAQFactory, DASYLab, Delphi, LabWindows/CVI, MATLAB, Visual Basic .NET and Visual Basic (VB6, VBA). Evidence: Documented

    Source: src-lj-examples

  • LabJack lists LJM as completely free and licensed under the permissive MIT X11 License; its licence page adds that LJM's licence also includes the Boost Software License and the gRPC License, plus the libusb (LGPL 2.1) licence on macOS and Linux. Evidence: Documented

    Source: src-lj-licence

  • LabJack lists LJM features including device discovery, automatic device reconnection, Modbus name-to-address interpretation (e.g. AIN0), threaded data streaming and buffering, thread safety and a basic demo mode for testing without a device. Evidence: Documented

    Source: src-lj-ljm

  • LabJack states that LJM's support for Windows, macOS and Linux allows the same code to run on different operating systems with the same results (vendor statement; not tested by BenchRove). Evidence: Documented

    Source: src-lj-ljm

  • LabJack also documents direct Modbus TCP examples that do not use LJM, and says some features, such as streaming, are greatly simplified by LJM. Evidence: Documented

    Source: src-lj-examples

  • On a Raspberry Pi or other ARM Linux host, T-series devices are used through LJM from the user's own program (for example Python or C/C++) rather than through LabJack's GUI apps (inference from the ARM app caveat and the language table). Evidence: Inferred
